The latest exciting creation from the company that brought you Ironman and Ironman 70.3 promises to usher in a new era for standard distance triathlons in South Africa! Yes, the 5150 triathlon will make its African berth on Saturday 13 August at Forever Resorts Warmbaths in Bela Bela.
The wait for an event of this calibre is over as athletes are in for an unforgettable ride, run and swim. Over and above the spectacular race experience, athletes will be privy to nothing but the best in terms of quality and value for their hard earned cash. Athletes will receive a moisture-wicking 5150 race T-shirt, an official 5150 finisher certificate with time splits and a high-quality 5150 finisher medal in the same mould as the esteemed Ironman medal.
There will be everything to play for as the most lucrative standard distance series in the world offers a $10 000 prize purse and 5150 series points for PRO athletes and 10 slots per age group to the 5150 US Championship in 2012 for age group athletes.
Professional technical assistance will be on hand to give the athletes the best possible race experience. An on-site Bike Shop and Expo will give athletes the opportunity to sample the latest wares and trends from the triathlon world and also get expert advice to help athletes maximise their potential and improve race times. Emergency medical services with Advanced Life Support and qualified doctor will be on hand to make sure that each and every athlete is safe and should they require medical assistance, will be immediately tended to.
During the race, athletes will be energised and revitalized by Powerbar with Powerbar energy drinks and Powerbar Recovery Bars available at the final aid station. After putting themselves through their paces, athletes can then wind down with a muscle-soothing post-race rub down in the Massage Tent. Thereafter athletes will get to see their times in the same format used at Ironman races – Swim time, T1, Bike time, T2, Run time, Overall time.
An unforgettable race atmosphere will be provided with knowledgeable running commentary and music throughout the event, culminating in a relaxing evening at the awards ceremony where a live DJ will keep the African 5150 debutants thoroughly entertained.

Entries are now open and the Early Bird Special rate is applicable until the 10th of June at R695. Thereafter it is R800 per individual and R1000 per team entry. These rates exclude TSA day license fees of R30 per person for athletes that are not registered with TSA.
