Morning to you from the Central Gauteng Triathlon Committee,

Firstly, well done to all our athletes who competed in the 2008 South African Triathlon Championships held in East London this weekend. We thank them for their hospitality and trust you all enjoyed your race. Hopefully there are not too many aches and pains in the aftermath.

The Results (Revision 1), are attached hereto for your information, with some of the split times missing. If you have any queries with the results, please let us know.

Our Province had a good representation in the medal standings, and well done to our Athletes who achieved in this regard. A list is shown below. It is interesting to note from the results, that we had a number of Athletes who just missed out on medals. We hope to see them in the list of medal winners next year. To all our Juniors, in particular to those who are new to the sport, well done on your efforts and keep it up.

There were two incidents of dedication and determination this weekend that highlighted the spirit of Triathlon and those involved,

  • Dedication - that of Roy, our kit supplier, who drove down overnight on Friday, from Joburg, to deliver kit for Central Gauteng and Border that could not be air freighted due to space constraints on the aircraft. Arriving at 5 am and after handing over the kit, he had a 2 hour sleep, a breakfast and headed back home. Dedication???
  • Determination – that of a Junior, Jason de Jager, who at 2.2 km’s out on the cycle leg, picked up a problem with his bike. Determined to finish the race, he ran the remainder cycle route with his bike, racked and went on to do the run portion, and complete the race. Well done Jason, and better luck next year.
  • In respect of the actual event, should you have any suggestions, comments or complaints in the manner in which matters were dealt with from a Provincial, or alternatively from a TSA / Event perspective, then in that event, please drop us an email for future reference and rectification.

Both Werner and myself would like to express our thanks and appreciation to our Committee for their support, and to those at the Event who assisted us in Registration and Pre-Race body marking, to make it a smooth and trouble free process. In particular to Jan and Hendra Bezuidenhout, Gail Dalton, Quinn de Jager, Luna Roberts, Phillipe Van Der Leeuw, Alvina Berg, and those Juniors who assisted me with the Junior Packs.

To all the sponsors of items for the Juniors, once again thank you, your support was most appreciated by the Juniors and myself. A particular thank you to those major sponsors listed below -

Finally, we thank you for your patience in the delay at the kit handout evening last Tuesday and apologise for any inconvience that may have been caused. Despite our late placement of the kit order with our supplier, and the power cuts which hampered the manufacture of our order, all 152 items of kit were received timeously. As such, we would also like to thank Roy for the tremendous amount of time and effort he put in to assist our Province.

To our Seniors and Juniors alike, good luck for the remainder of the Triathlon Season and we look forward to seeing you at our Duathlon Champs in the near future.

    Kind Regards
For and behalf of the Central Gauteng Triathlon Committee
    Craig Thysse
